Bret & Frisk have been performing together throughout the Midwest and other parts of the country for the past 29 years. They met, appropriately enough, at an open microphone night in Breckenridge, Colorado in 1992 and have been together ever since. Their music ranges from a few hits of the 1950s all the way up to present day alternative rock/folk (Sarah McLachlan, Adele, Jimmy Buffett, John Prine). Most of their music, however, comes directly from the "Woodstock" era of the late 1960s and early 1970s, with artists such as Simon and Garfunkel, John Denver, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, America, and Janis Joplin.
Their backgrounds are as diverse as their musical repertoire. Bret grew up in Iowa, and began singing in his mother's hometown country church from a young age. His tastes turned to rock & roll as he became the front man for several successful bands throughout and after his college years, most notably The Pedestrians. As he grew more and more accomplished on the acoustic guitar, his tastes turned a little more toward the folk genre, and he began singing as a solo musician at several ski resorts in the Rocky Mountains. His major influences include Neil Young, Bob Dylan, John Prine, Kris Kristofferson and John Denver.
Frisk grew up on the east coast and studied music in college, performing in opera workshops, choral groups, and a capella singing groups. Her first time singing on a microphone was in Breckenridge, Colorado, the same night she met Bret. She joined his acoustic show, adding harmonies to his melody lines; the two have performed in this way in Colorado, Washington, California, New Hampshire, and most of the mid-western states.
Together they have put out 3 cds of music, mostly cover songs, but with a few of Bret's original songs mixed in. Their unique blend of acoustic instruments and vocal harmonies have gained them a loyal following of all ages wherever they have taken their act. Audiences are encouraged to make requests from their repertoire of over 400 songs, making their shows more personal than most music acts.
Highlights of their musical career include sharing the stage with the band America, Three Dog Night, Charlie Daniels and performing for the owners of the St. Louis Cardinals, singing for a Denver Bronco golf fund-raising event, and last, but not least, performing hundreds of times for friends, family, and patrons of numerous venues. So come on out to one of their shows. They always enjoy seeing and meeting new people. Their music just might have you singing along, tapping your toes, or just pleasantly relaxing and reminiscing.
